Roll Over Menno

All Mennonites Welcome Here!

Mennonites and YOGA

Is yoga for Christians, or is it a great compromise?

Read these and find out:

Is it any surprise, with the current popularity of yoga and the state of compromise in the Mennonite seminaries and universities, that students at Eastern Mennonite University are signing up for yoga classes this week? Here is the link:

Then there’s the article called Yoga Anyone? on Third Way Café:

“yoga is a lot about stretching and bending and clearing the mind of all thoughts except what your body is doing…the hardest pose for most people is the one where we simply lay completely still on the floor and try not to think about anything except for the fact that we are just laying there, totally relaxing, not worrying about the day ahead or the night behind. You almost feel like you are floating. We spend about 3-4 minutes in this “pose.” “

By the way, Third Way Café is produced by Mennonite Media, on behalf of the Mennonite Churches of the U.S. and Canada, under the sponsorship of Mennonite Mission Network. From the site:

If you wonder why this is called Third Way Café:

* We hope it sounds inviting to anyone exploring things that are different
* Many times we think there are only two choices or options when actually there is a third or alternate way between two choices
* It reflects the fact that Mennonites and Anabaptists are somewhere between Catholic and Protestant on many theology issues–a third way.

Oh really? What would Menno say? Last we heard he was rolling over in his grave over that one.

ROM Index: floating, about a third of the way from the top

And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them
Jeremiah 32:38,39

  1. Some amazing research youve done here. I think EMU also offers pilates. You should do some research on the dubious origins it has. What would Menno say indeed?

Rom 3:1-4 “What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God; For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar”
